Post subject: | Best intake configeration..... |
Hi all, First time posting here ![]() I've just bought my first slanter, after previously building a stout little 318, so feel like a real novice again....which is sort of fun in some ways? ![]() My 225 is completely stock, from inlet to tail pipe, and I'm wanting to warm her over a little. Here in Aus we have some good headers off the shelf, so exhaust is not too difficult, but I'm not sure wat to do on the inlet area I'll probably in the near future do elect ingition, good mid range cam, headers with a sinle, free flowing 2.5 system....but what with the inlet: A: 2 barrel/stock manifold? B: 4 barrel/stock manifold? C: one of those trick 2 x 2 barrell weber setups ($$$ ![]() D: any other suggestions? Thanks in advance, cheers Dean ![]() |

Post subject: | 4bbl Carb Option |
The only stock 4bbl intake that came with the slant six is the Hyper-Pak intake, which is extremely rare today. In the USA, Clifford Performance and Offenhauser make 4bbl intakes for the slant six. I think there are other intake manufacturers in Australia but I'm not familiar with them. The most common recommendations for a 4bbl carb is either the Holley 390 CFM or the Edelbrock 500 CFM. I have been working on a Rochester QuadraJet option and found that it works quite well. Have a look at what I have done: http://cars.rasoenterprises.com/Carb-Quadrajet.htm The QuadraJet has way more capacity than what you will need but, as a junkyard part, it's cheaper than buying a new Holley or Edelbrock. Of course, you will need to get some adapters to make it work because it is a spreadbore carb and the intakes are squarebores. I have a kit available for the conversion if you need one. Be sure to keep the intake manifold heated to prevent an off-idle bog and to ensure good fuel distribution. Frank |

Here in the USA we have the factory "Super Six" 2 bbl intake that is a good improvment over the 1 bbl set-up. These pop-up on ebay all the time. DD |
