Just beginning the assembly of my block, why does the shop manual call for the main caps to be torqued to 50lbs instead of the cast irons 85lbs?
I'm getting a full .001 clearance on the bearings at this setting...will this be alright for a mild + rebuild or should I up the torque? I didn't see mention of this in all the other excellent articles on your wonderful sight.

The bottom end of the Aluminium SL6 is much weaker then it's cast iron brother. The main bolts screw into aluminium and are longer and "skinny" to allow oil to pass thru to feed the crank. Stay with 50 - 55 ft.lbs unless you get the ARP stud kit.
