I see some Torque flite 904 trans selling with lockup and some non lockup...what is the difference? which is better for street mainly?

The lockup is a lockup torque convertor. It locks at about 45 MPH and does away with torque convertor slippage. It is supposed to give you better fuel economy and increased engine life due to the fact that it drops your RPMs back some and none of the engines power is lost in the convertor. The 727 Torqueflite in my Ram has one and it feels like it shifts four times from 0-60, but the 4th shift is just the torque convertor locking up.

thanks Jeb....so the lockup or nonlockup is really the torque convertor function.. since lockup is fuel efficent, then non lockup is more performance oriented.......

Yes, a non-lock-up is the way to go for a performance engine simply because a lock-up converter will not last long with a lot of WOT shifts.
The fact is that most of these transmissions will not let the convereter go into lock-up when you have the gas floored.
