When Alex and I changed the rear springs in the Valiant we added poly bushings. When the springs were removed we broke the shackle bolts. The original bolts were 3/8 and our new bushings were 7/16. We made up new shackles using 7/16 bolts but are not satisfied with the result. Do we order B-body shackles to get the larger size? Where can you get them? |

The www.rareparts.com place in Stockton,CA is where I just bought a set for my Valiant - The PN 35110 fits 63-70 and contains rubber bushings, bolts, and the stamped sides. The bolts are just a shade under 1/2" dia where they go through the bushings then step down to just under 7/16" dia where the stamped shackle sides sit on the bolt. The shackle kits cost $23 each. The poly bushings I've used are about 1/2" ID, so I just used some flat bar stock and 1/2" bolts for the shackles. Weld the bolt heads to the stock to eliminate non-square flexing of the shackle. Lou |

I think we are headed towards a local solution. We kinda sorta have Lous solution now.(had to get the car together). I will have the car for a few days while Alex does a delivery to Wichita in the Roadmaster. Methinks a serious couple of hours with bolts/hardened washers and a welder are in order. The stock shackles look pretty lame....3/8 bolts |
