| Post subject: | lower uca bushings |
Last weekend I replaced the strut rod bushing on my 65 signet and figured I would do the lower control arm bushing at the same time. Everything went amazingly easy until the actual removal of the bushing's outer shell. It was a major hassle. I was wondering if there is an easy way to do this. I seem to recall a mopar mag article about welding a washer to it but my memory is a bit fuzzy at times. The car is back together so I'm basically just wanted to know for when I do the other side of the car. |

Sorry for the slow reply. The outer bushing shells are indeed tough to remove. I used a Sawzall inside the shell to cut a notch, i.e. score the inside of the shell to weaken it. Careful not to go too deep and cut into the control arm! Then use a hammer and chisel or dull screwdriver to bend the shell inwards. Also use pliers or whatever else to destroy the shell. Again, be very careful not to damage the LCA. Take your time, hammer carefully and you should be able to get it out without even scratching the LCA. There may be another, better way of doing it, but this worked for me. Good luck, Steve |

| Post subject: | weld a thick washer to one end, and pound the shell out |
HI all, Saw a trick in Mopar Muscle ( I know, they don't hold a candle to Mopar Action). They used a wirefeed welder to weld a thick washer to one end of the shell. They then used a press to push it out. Here is the link: http://moparmusclemagazine.com/tipstric ... trol_arms/ Greg |

thanks for the link. I knew that I had read about welding a washer somewhere but couldn't remember where. As far as a lower upper control arm is concerned I posted while I was at work and as a result my brain was jello at the time. |

The first time I did a LCA bushing, I followed the FSM's instructions. What a PITA. Then I got the idea that if I welded a couple pieces of scrap metal across the face, I could just press it out. After less than 5 min of work it was out of there. I must have missed the washer article, but would be easy to do |
