Post subject:  Yet another guage question...

Okay, here's my problem: gas and temp guage not working, so I took out the cluster, got a new voltage limiter, cleaned everything up real nice, replaced the dead bulbs, tested both temp and fuel (they pegged out w/ voltage applied), re-installed cluster. Now, when I turn the ignition key to send power to the system, the guages jump right up like they are working fine and after about 10 seconds they sink back down to the "dead" position. This happens weather I leave the key at the first position or if I start the car and leave it running. What gives? Everything else seems to be working fine, dash lights, head lights, turn signals, horn, dimmer switch, high beam swithch, wipers, etc.

Post subject:  After that do you?

After it goes 'dead' have you reached under the dash and wiggled the cluster plug a little to see if you have a loose connection. Had this happen before and had to repair a couple of pins on the circuit board, and found the plug tended to not sit right, so I had to reposition the plug wiring so it 'forces' it on the circuit board more...

Another problem is the socket of the voltage regulator prongs can become loose too after 'warming up', I had to pull the board and 'tweak' the slots with a pair of pliers (gingerly).

Hate them gremlins.

good luck,
