I will be putting the front k-frame and such from a '73 Scamp into a '71 Duster. The '71 has manual steering, which I would like to retain, and the '73 has power steering. I believe there is some differences between the two years as far as the steering and idler arms goes. Am I correct? If I need to, which way should I convert, the put the '71 box/steering arm/idler onto the '73 K-frame, or put a steering arm for a '73 with manual steering onto the manual box? I'm also under the impression that the idler arm is the same for power steering and manual steering, am I correct here as well? Thank you Slant Sixers and A-bomb Gurus! |

The '73 and up K-members have differant idler and pitman arms. You will need to use the '73 stuff. As far as I know, the pitman arm will bolt onto the older '71 box. |

The Pittman, drag link, and idler all have to come from the same style of front end, and must match the steering box as well. The late box has a bigger shaft size. You can not mix and match those parts. You can keep the older style of drag link, pittman, and idler with your later K member. There is nothing to prevent that. The tie rod ends will interchange, so you can hook either to the later ball joints. |
