This is my first Mopar and I am enjoying it greatly. I have a 72 Duster / 225 and would like to get more horse and torque. I read Car Craft and Popular Hot Rodding (been reading B4 /6). I wonder if it would be possible to get at the flywheel at least up to 300 HP and Trq. If so where would be the best place to get parts. I know I have a Torqueflite trans but not much else. After reading about 500 HP and Trq for V8's I was thinking 300 would be possible, right? Thanks in advance for any info. ![]() |

How much $ you got? Anything is possible with the cash. Also may consider street driveability. May be better to keep it within reason. |

I doubt you could get 300 HP without forced induction (turbo or supercharger) OR nitrous. That said, a relatively light A body (Around 3000 lbs?) will "scoot" nicely with 200-225HP. I believe this is not too hard, especially if you are starting your build from scratch. Welcome and have fun! ![]() |

Thanks for your replies. First off I guess I just want more punch with keeping it street legal and to look good at shows. I would like to make some noise with an open header switch and be able to burn rubber at will for the fun of it. Money can be saved up until build time. It's just what ratio's would be best for cam, compression, valve size and exhaust size. All without boring or honing. I am however going to keep the car original with minor custom upgrades. I understand this will take time and will be fun in the process. Thanks once again. ![]() |

If you change the cam, ignition, carb and do some mild head work, you can spin the tires whenever you want. Here's an idea: Comp cam (252s or 264s) 4BBL (Holley 390 or Edelbrock 500) intake (Offenhauser or Clifford) Exhaust (headers or Dutra Duals) Head work (new valves, mild "self port", shaved .060-.100) igntion (stock electronic, Pertronix, or MSD) There are LOTS of options. For example, you can go with the Proline 2X2 carbs or a Hyperpak instead of regular intake. 63gtcv said it best. How much $$$ you got? ![]() |
