I am recurving my electronic distributer. The dist. I have has a L13 governor. I have a 15R Iam welding up to be 9-10 degrees. Can I swap the "R" for the "L" with no problems? |

Compare the two parts side by side. The slot to align the rotor should be in the same position on both in relation to the flat plate. I've seen L and R pieces that seem to interchange, but I've only just started working on distributors recently. |

Thanks for the reply. I went to the Junkyard today and found a Dist. with a 9R from a pickup. What lube do most people use in a distributor rebuild? |

I coated moving parts with white lithium grease, but just a little to keep rust as bay. Any more will throw off while the parts rotate and make a mess. The main bushings are 'self oiling' off the cam gear, and I've seen several different designs. A little smear of motor oil will keep them happy till the motor gets running again. Make sure that the heavy slotted spring is working, mine didn't even catch at full advance. I got another light spring and bent it slotted, then adjusted it to catch at 2/3 mechanical advance. Make sure the first light spring is tight enough to pull the whole governer works back to the zero position. It works pretty good now. (daily driven truck) Do you have the tab or post style spring adjusters? The post style actually rotate on an offset base to adjust. Looks like there should be a special tool, but pliers work O.K. when it's already apart. With the 9R i've got my initial set to 10* btdc and haven't tried pushing that setting at all yet. Nice power improvement from the 15r governor. |

I've never found a pattern to the letters used after the advance numbers on mechanical or vacuum advance mechanisms. I've seen "R", "L", "X", "N" and a few others. All \6 distributors rotate the same way, and the advance mechanism is the same in all Chrysler-built distributors. There are no "left handed" or "right handed" units, so feel free to use whatever you want to use. It's not even important that the rotor clocking be the same between old and new, because if you wind up with different rotor clocking, you can simply rotate the distributor body once installed to compensate. |

No governer at all in the lean burn units. The points governers have different rotor position than electronic, but they don't interchange anyways. |

There has been alot of interest in recurving distributors her elately. I was wondering if anyone out there has a resource which lists the rating of the governor and/or the weight of the springs by distributor part number or application? I plan to spend some time recurving a distributor for my road runner, adn would be interested to see what sorts of applications have the best innards. |

Some say "L" on bottom and "R" on top.The 9R with an 11.0 can unit I got was off an 80 d100 pickup. I also would like to find some info on identifying springs and such. Thanks for the replies.... Anybody ever use teflon lube? |
