Hey wuts goin down everybody? Anyway, I recently bought a slant 6 motor from this guy who pulled it out of a 72 maybe 73 duster...Theres alot of rust on it and oil thats been sitting for a while. Ive been told, first thing to do is spray it down with Liquid Wrench or anyhting else that will get rid of the rust. - I've already done that and it worked pretty good id say, alot of the rust came off and its startin to show its original blue color - I need some help with what else to do afterwards....Most of the bolts are rusted or covered in oil so ive already bought a new bolt set for it, but the main problem ive run into so far is this: While loading the engine there was a problem and it fell over and just happend to land on the distributer....great...and so now my distributer is broken and i need a new one...im still keeping the old one for reference n all that good stuff but someone told me i should get an electric distributer anyway...but if anyone knows where i can find one of those itd be GREATLY appreciated - any other hints would be great -
and also im wonderin about performance ideas already...i first want to take my engine apart and put it back together before i start adding stuff just so i know how it works...but i want to get it to have as much hp as possible cuz my brother was talkin crap about the slants and i cant have none of that.........him and his stupid imports...so anyway im out - any help would be great thanks later

What car is this going into?

If your in the US, distributors are availible from your local auto parts store. If you want an electronic ignition one (good upgrade to get rid of trouble-prone points) ask for one from a 73 duster. If the car the engine is going into does not have electronic ignition already, you can upgrade to the mopar style one (check out the article section off of www.slantsix.org for a wiring diagram) or perhaps an aftermarket multi-spark box such as the MSD-6A.

Check out the rest of the articles for lots of good info and look around in the forums. How much money do you want to spend? Building an import killer slant isn't impossible but it will take some doing. Higher compression, better intake/carb setup (even efi...), turbo, headers, cam, higher numerical ratio gears theres lots you can do but how far do you want to go is the question.

Also since your getting a distributor, look through the distributor recurve threads. There have been a few of those recently. Use the search function as well to find previous posts on a topic.

Gotta love sibling rivalries. Welcome to the world of slantdom.

Rebuild the engine as you are planning.
Consider taking a .020 to .030 "clean-up" cut off the block deck, the right machine shop can align the top deck to the crankshaft main line which is a good thing to do.

Put all you "special" time and effort into the cylinder head.
Take a .030 to .060 cut off of the head.
Pocket port and back-cut the intake valves.
If you need to buy new valves, consider the oversize valves offered by SI.

A "performance" camshaft may be a good addition. (don't get to wild with the cam)
Intake and exhaust upgrades will also be needed but these can be "bolted-on" later.
Again, the most "bang for the buck" is in good cylinder head porting and rebuilding work.

thanks for all for all the info - my gfs dad works at a car shop...more like a hummer shop - but anyway - i can get alot of my parts fixed through there and have things cleaned up and shot-peened for free which is good...to answer the question about the car to put it in...im not sure yet...ive been looking around locally for an A body car that has no engine in it so i can put it in easier...im lookin at either a Dart or a Barracuda...cant decide...but im sure id take anythin i could get to...I also have another question...Now, you can get 4-barrel intake manifolds for slant six's....what kind of carburator would you get for that? thanks...
