 Post subject: Speedo cable help!
PostPosted: Mon Nov 29, 2004 6:25 pm
This is in adddition to a previous post. The new cable I put into my car
causes the needle to just jump around. It has been suggested to me to shorten the cable, to just cut it. I don't think that could be done as the cable has certain fittings that fit into the back of the speedo in the dash. Anyone else have any experience with this??

Sounds as though you had the problem before the old cable broke. I think it's time to get another speedometer. One for that particular car should not be difficult to find at all.

I suggests that you do some tests, one was to loosen the cable from the speedo and pull it back some to see if that helps to get rid of the bounce.

If the cable is a little long, a small amount of material can be ground off the ends. If it is more then 1/8 inch to long, you would have to get a new cable kit and redo the installation of the crimped-on end piece.

The speedometer in my car does the same thing. Time for a new speedometer head buddy.
