Hi Folks,
I just tried installing a new timing chain set from Cloyes. I have a 65 Dart with a newer (5 freeze plugs) 225 engine. The diameter of the crank shaft is 1.531 and the new gear ID is 1.564. Does anyone know if the crank dia. changed over the years or if I might have a different engine than what I think?

The crank is "stepped". The dia where the crank gear mounts is 1.565, the area for the damper is 1.532
PS: make sure you install the crank gear with the large chamfer on the ID to the inside.

Usually heat a crank gear with a propane torch or on a scrap BBQ...with gloved hands it should slide right on pretty easy. I would use a light heat item like that and not an oxy acet set up...

Good Luck,

It is that reason, I don't like muti keyed crank sprockets. Much easier to use an off-set cam bushing to adjust cam timing.

I'll agree on that one, that roll master timing set with multi keyway left gouges in my crank snout once it cooled and settled in, the fit was a bit too tight for me. I'll go back to the Cloyes set up on future motors.
