While trying to locate the correct rear wheel bearing for my 63 Dart,I realized there was a major mistake with the parts store catalogs.
O'Reilly's and Advance Auto listed the 60-64 bearing as cup and cone type bearing,Autozone and Napa lists 60-62 as a cup and cone bearing which is wrong for a 7 1/4 for 60-61,they take a sealed ballbearing similar to the 63-71 bearing only smaller.
From what I can tell, there wasnt an A-Body 7 1/4 ever produced with the cup and cone tapered bearing. I have 60,61,63,and 72 rears that I have pulled axles from to check dimensions on.

The correct wheel bearing for 63-71 is RWF-34-R Bearing with a 484058 inner seal, and is readily available.

I dont have the pt.no. for the 72 up but it also readily available.

What I'm looking for now is the pt.no. for the 60-61bearing,the closest bearing I could find was a rw-102-r which has the same inside and outside diminsions but is slightly narrower but cannot find a suitable inner seal. Can anyone(Doc,SSD,etc.) shed any light on the wheelbearing situation for the 60-61 A-Bodys.

The reason for asking this is, after having the wheelbearing fail on my 63Dart I got to thinking that the bearings in my 60 Valiant are even older and smaller and filled with 46 year old grease and more susceptible to failure and would like to find the parts or reasonable substitutes as this car will also be driven quite alot.

Im sure that most of the 60-61 A-body cars out there that are not race cars are still using the original 7 1/4 rear and will need wheel bearings also.
Any help on this matter is greatly appeciated.
BTW,thanks to Lou and Charlie_S for the info on the bearings to get my Dart back on the road.

I don't know if it's the right place to ask this but are the paper seals for the drum plate to axle still sold? I'm searching for a part N°.
Thanks

Marc

I usually make the gasket your speaking of.Most parts stores carry gaket material that works well for that application.

I think I have a spare set -- I'll check the numbers on them & sizes if that would help
I cannot remember -- but some of the NOS suppliers has these-- Andy Bernbaum --might
