ive managed to locate a couple of 8 1/4 rears in my area. both places want about $350 for em. they are complete drum to drum. is this price outta hand? what are the prices elsewhere? just thought id check on this before i think too hard on one of these $350 rears. |

'74 Maverick rear end, 5 lug, 2.79 ratio, $100 drum-to-drum, $125 with the tires and rims. They pull. |

Northern California pick n'pulls, rear ends are $60 drum to drum. They don't care what car what rear size etc. I think truck/van ones maybe a bit more. |

Spokane pick and pull: 8 1/4, $60 drum to drum plus almost brand new snow tires. Rare over here though, and generally you know what car had an 8 1/4 because the rear end is gone. Shivadart |

looks like im sol. most people around here that have mopar parts know what they have when they have it and jack the prices way up. im going to convert to disc brakes and the big bolt pattern sometime and dont really wanna put money into a 7 1/4 with gears and what not. havent checked on a ford 8.8 but that seems like quite a bit of overkill for the slant ill be running. |

Ford 8.8" may be overkill but if its a direct fit (and I think some exploder rears had stock disc) and availible, then it may be a good alternative. |

Just paid $125 for a complete drum to drum non posi 8.25". I'm in Maine and around here we have a weekly "Swap and Sell" guide. I put an ad in for exactly what I was looking for and in 2 days got about six calls. There are no junk yards here with this kind of stuff, and even the "Mopar Guys" in my area couldn't find me one! My advice - put an ad in your local or regional paper. Tell them you have cash and are willing to pick up and I bet you'll get some calls. Be specific about what you want though, I had plenty of calls from guys with 7.25's that didn't know how to ID the 8.25... |

$60 for a 8.25 and it came with a whole car. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a whole car and use the parts that you need. Then sell the rest and make some of your money back. |

ive looked for whole cars too, havent had much luck. the ford 8.8 is a direct fit? i thought i read that it had to be narrowed? ive looked for the post that i thought i read that on but i cant find it. you have to weld on new spring perches though, correct? |

The 8.8 is not a bolt-in deal. You will need to weld on new spring perches, cut off 3" from one side of the axle and purchase another axle. There was a write up on what needed to be done to make it work. On the other hand, the Ford 8" from the '70s Granada/Maverick is a bolt in deal. Dart270 just bolted one in from a Maverick. |

...sometimes you gotta just keep looking. Plus you might try making a reasonable offer to those guys who think their's are made out of gold. If they balk, tell em that they're out of their frigging minds if they think they're going to get that ($350), and walk away. D/W |

Patience is the most important aspect in the parts hunting struggle. You can get anything, no matter how rare if you are willing to spend unlimited money. but in time if you save a reasonable amount of money and keep looking something always turns up..you just need ot have the money ready to go get it when it does. you have to be stubborn...There are lots of people with cars sitting in their backyards and they are more than willing to get rid of them... refuse to pay ebay prices and you will get what you need in time.
