Howdy gang,
I have to change the clutch out in my A108 with the A745 3-speed tranny and would like any tips or words of wisdom from the experts.
I have to do this by myself, with a bad back and on a gravel driveway so any and all ideas will help!
I have a clutch kit from NAPA for it - 10" and I'm praying it's the right one and not an 11"!
Anyway, thanks for any advice you can send my way.

Gravel? Ouch, reminds me of times I get under cars at wrecking yards with unpaved floors.

Throw a piece of cardboard or old rug underneath you for some insulation.

My tip is to use an old trans input shaft to index the clutch disc before tightning the pressure plate down. Once you are ready to put in your new clutch place the new disc on the flywheel. If the disc says "flywheel side" make sure it goes that way. Install all the bolts in the pressure plate loosely so the disc is still moveable. Put your old input shaft through the disc splines and into the pilot bushing. rotate the shaft to make sure everything is centred nicely. torque pressure plate bolts to specs. If you dont have an old imput shaft you can often make a pilot shaft from an old broom handle. Some shops have ready made ones that they might lend. Start early....swear often,,,,take your time.
If you "smoked" your clutch you may need to resurface the flywheel.

Sandy, the kit comes with an alignment tool, so that should not be a problem. It also comes with a new throw out bearing etc. I was thinking about getting longer top bolts and using them to "slide" the tranny back and forth. Hoping I can anyway!
Thanks for the info - I hope I can get away without resurfacing - although I would love to do it - period! Just that money is so tight that I can't even hear the front end squeek on this thing because of MY squeeks!

Your on the right track, with the long bolts. How ever cut the heads off the bolts, to make them studs. Cut a screwdriver slot in the end. Use studs long enough, so the trans will hang from them, before the input shaft engages the clutch disc. Makes it much easier on the back.

How long do you think they need to be?
I'm guessing about 8"s if I can find such an animal?
