Hi everyone,

I just found out from my source that he would be willing to part with the 62 savoy rear end along with the engine and trans. I looked quickly in my 62 owner's manual, and it appears that car has the 8 1/4 rear end. The 8 3/4 rears were spec'd on V8 cars? So I'm just wondering what I should do.

Now I don't know anything about this rear end--and whether its worth the hassle of hauling back with me. Can you guys shed some light on this? Is this worth getting (will it even fit?)? I think the gearing is likely to be 2.93, but I'll take my manual along and see if I can ID it from the numbers on it.

Just wanted to know what you guys thought. I know some people had suggested getting the larger rears, so I thought I'd atleast make a somewhat informed decision ;-)

Currently my 7 1/4 rear has 3.23" gears.

Thanks!

MJ

The B-body rear will not fit in your car. The 7 1/4" rear you have now will likely be fine for moderate street duty. The 3.23 gears are excellent for all round use. My Valaint has 3.23 gears and has survivred my own lead foot and my teens learning to drive.

Sandy's right -- the B-body rear will not easily fit in your A-body, and would bring a large can of worms with it. Remember also, this is not the same 8ΒΌ that came in later ('70s) cars.
