Post subject: | Moparts Connection All Mopar Southern Nationals |
May and June appear to be the busiest months for Slant 6 racers. Especially June! But here goes anyway... ![]() ![]() Anyone interested in a Slant 6 race in Georgia on Memorial Day weekend ![]() Not in direct competition or conflict with Bristol or any other Slant 6 series race!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() This would be an add on event at a nice track with some friendly folks and all the fried green tomatoes and boiled peanuts you can eat! No promises of fame or glory or points or even recognition of any kind whatsoever. If it goes I will offer a $100 purse however the racers want to split it. If anyone has an issue with me even mentioning this or feels like this takes away from the Slant 6 series in any way, please speak now or forever hold your peace.... The All Mopar Southern Nationals in Reynolds Georgia looks like it's going to be on Memorial Day weekend right in between Monster Mopar @ Indy on May 21-22 and Thunder Valley Mopar Mania at Bristol on June 3-5. That is followed by Columbus Chrysler Classic the following weekend. A busy summer schedule to be sure. This would be 4 weekends back to back to back to back. If there is enough interest I will approach the event organizer and see if I can get a Slant 6 race added to the event schedule and do as much of the coordination as I can over the internet and phone calls. I will need someone to volunteer to organize the racers and set up the ladder the day of the event though, because I can't quite make it. As much as I love Slant 6 racing, I'd rather spend my two weeks R&R from Iraq with my wife and kids. Thanks, Rob |

I am and have been in favor of a slant race at this meet, since I first heard of it. I can understand, why it was not possible last year, with Bristol being the same weekend. But this weekend it is not in direct conflict with any other races. There are sothern racers who will not travel to Indy or Columbus. I also think there are racers from those areas who will not travel all the way to south Georgia. Why not have the meet, and those who would like to go, show up. Nobody is saying that it is required to make every race. I can't commit at this time, but I would be willing to kick in something toward the purse. |

I am interested in this event, fellows, but can't make a commitment that far out. I haven't done anything new to the Duster and probably won't by then, either ![]() D/W |

Hey Charrlie, With Bristol being the very next weekend,... and since you're that far already,... maybe if you win something at Silver Dollar it will make it worth your while to stay "up North" another week and make the Bristol event as well. You could make it a mini-vacation and take Peg to the Coca-Cola Factory and Stone Mountain there in Atlanta. Hey Dennis, The Duster ran pretty well last year. Just remember that it's usually a little bit faster than you thought. ![]() |

Tell you what. If I hit the lottery, I'll make it a maxi-vacation, and go to all the races. |

Maybe someone should give Seymour a call and discuss it with him since he and Doug try to coordinate everything. Tom |

I called Seymour and PMd Doug. They both gave a thumbs up to support this race. Again, this is not an added points race for the series. It is just an added opportunity to: 1. Get together with other Slant 6 racers and have a race 2. Get some exposure at an All Mopar event for the Slant 6 series 3. Maybe win some cash 4. Eat boiled peanuts and fried green tomatoes until you're sick. What could possibly be better than that? Rob |

The Mopar Race at Silver Dollar Raceway has been cancelled. Lawrence Roundtree has decieded to not promote the race this year, due to health and other problems. Here is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the track, and the response. Mr. Charlie, Unfortunately a MOPAR only event is not scheduled for this year. We have tentatively scheduled a "Quarter-mile Saturday" event for Memorial Day Weekend, but may wind up with another "Special Event". Check our web site for details. Is this correct? Is there going to be a Mopar meet this year? Either Memorial Day weekend, or some other date? Charrlie_S 65 Valiant 170 turbo 66 Cuda 170 nitrous 69 Polara stock |

Bummer. That changes things a bit, doesn't it? Thanks for checking Charlie. We'll find a way to get you back up "North" somehow. Rob |

Well that sucks. I wish they'd have something here in the spring or fall. All of the "Mopar" events here in GA are in the middle of the screaming hot summer..... D/W |

So are we having a slant race in Ga or not? Where will it be at and can I run my bone-stock Duster in it. How much does it cost to run in it? I can come if it is on memorial day weekend because school will be out. Let me know something. |

Hey Jeb, It does not look like there will be a Slant 6 race in Georgia this year. I am looking into other options, but I'm not sure something else will pan out. Keep checking back in though. If anything changes I will be sure to post it as early as possible. And yes, bone stock Dusters are more than welcome. The winner of the Slant 6 race at this event last year was running a bone stock Duster in the 20 second range. He got $100 for his efforts. Rob |
