Post subject:  Running poorly gas cloudy?

Well after a tank or so on this newly rebuilt motor and trans it starts to stall on me. I look at the glass filter I have in line and it's clody and half full with air in it. New fuel pump BTW and filter. A little while later it stalls and I barely make it back from lunch. I look at the filter and it's nearly all air. I put in a new sock in the tank and rebuilt the sender unit with a new float and seal. Could there be loose crud in the tank clogging the sock. Any help would be appreciated. Iwas gping to replace the filter but if it's mostly air I think it may be the tank. Should I blow back through the line? And can you blow through the pump in that direction.

Does sound like tank contamination; you're going to want to pull the tank and send it to your local radiator shop for a boilout and pour-in liner.

You can't blow backwards through the fuel pump -- if you want to blow back through the fuel line, you have to apply pressure to the line before the fuel pump.

A word of warning, on blowing air back through the line. remove the fuel fill cap, it doesn't take a lot of pressure to bulge the tank. Been there, done that. Also if the sock is clogged, it is possible to blow the sock off the line, inside the tank.
I would also check the fuel line for a rusted area, that might be sucking air, or a bad rubber line.

Fixed it. Kink in the line at the tank. Got ready to pull the sending unit to check the sock and the rubber line I put on a few months back was kinked.

I re-positioned it, then we started it, and my friend yelled "Fuel!!!" We were in the parking lot at a Checker in South Tucson at Ajo and 6th st. Not the nicest neighborhood, but we fit right in.

Anyways thanks for the response, easy fix as it turned out and we were on our way.

Thanks again and again!!
