I recently towed home a 66 A100 van w/slant and three speed. I got the van just for the 8 3/4 but it is so solid and complete I think I will drop in a 360, now here is my question:

Is the bell on the van a car application. If so I might put a 4 speed in my Valiant behind the slant in it. If so what are my options for trannies with out getting exotic with adaptors and fabrication and the such. Or would the van three speed hold up with the mild mods on the slant, head work, cam headers etc.I presume the crank is the same for both the 904 and manual. Any suggestions??

If the Van has the high SL6 starter location then it has the same bellhousing as the passenger cars. The low starter means it already has a V8 bellhousing.
The early 3-speed will hold-up but they are no fun to drive. Crappy shift linkage and a non-syncrownized fist gear makes for slow and "unsure" gear selection.

Thanks Doc,

Unfortunatly more asnwers bring more questions. Will this engine bellhousing combination drop into my 66 Valiant with out clearence problems..actually looks smaller than the auto bell. And what are my choices for 4 speeds?. I don't know if the engine in the van is a 66 or not, it is blue, my Valiant motor is red and I know that is factory because when I got the car it only had 7,000 miles on it and my aunt bought it new. I only wonder about the year of the motor because of the crank deal. I haven't pulled the valve cover to check if the valves are mechanical or not. Plus if I can put this in with the manual tranny I could go to a more aggressive cam if I wanted. Too many choices..... Ok I've either had too much coffe or not enough..This is a low starter and yes I know the valves are not mechanical or not, but the lifters are mechanical or not...can I ramble more????
