Anybody have experience instaling 11" inchers on the rear of an A-body? I've never had a problem with the 10s as far as proportioning goes. Is this deal gonna push things over the line? Will I need an adjustable prop valve? Will the extra surface area really help brake power that much? I have stock manual bb discs in front and 3.55SG in the 8.75 out back. Any help would be much appreciated! |

I think that A bodies don't really need the extra rear stopping power of the 11" drums or the weight that goes with them. I'd stick with the 10's. If the 11's are already on the axle go ahead but definately get an adjustable valve to help dial them in. I had to go to an adjustable Prop valve on my Barracuda even with the 10" rear drums on the 8-3/4 axle I installed. I have non-power brakes too and before the prop valve went on the rears would lock even in moderately hard stops. Now it's ok except for an all out, both feet on the pedal, panic stop. The prop valve is all the way front biased now and could use a little more. I may have to change the rear wheel cylinder size to get some more range of adjustability. Or, now that I'm running 15" wheels, I may go to B-body 11-3/4" rotors up front to put a little more stop up front. Either way the 10's are plenty in the rear for my car. |

I've got 11" drums on the back of my '66. If you have a set for free, they are OK, but I would rather have 10" drums. The 11's don't really stop any better than the 9" ones did, plus they are really heavy. ![]() |
