I have an 8 3/4 axle housing available to me from an e body cuda. I've read the article that Gunpilot did on his Duster, but I was curious if there may be any additional things for me to consider on an early A-body that anyone can think of.

An E-body axle will not fit under an A-body. Expecially a '66 cuda which doesn't have large wheel openings.

So even flaring out the fender and using backspaced tires wouldn't do it for me?

Well, if you want to butcher the car, then sure it will work.

But I would move the springs into the frame rails and then take the axle down to a machine shop and have them narrow it up so you can have the tires inside the fenderwells. But that is just my opinion.

E-body is waaaaayyyyyyyy too wide. Those are even wider than a C-body I believe. For the money it will cost for bodywork and offset wheels you can have a place like Moser cut the housing and cut and respline the axles so it will fit an A-body. I know Moser cut and splined my axles for about $90 and they charge the same for narrowing a housing.
