Ok, Hi all...Greetings from wilkes county,Nc! I have some questions
regarding my current slant 6 race buildup and have turned here
seeking help. I'd like to know where I can get the following pieces for
a /6, I have heard there is a windage tray available for these
and am looking for that and as well as a double roller timing chain
and possibly roller rockers, contacts would be most helpful. My next area
of intrest would be the cylinder head, I'd like to know if I would have to
have custom pushrods when having it shaved 120 thousanths. Also what
valve springs would work well with my camshaft as follows .510/.510
-242*dur -108 LSA, would the pistons have to be notched?? It is
going to be a 225 but am considering a long rod 225- Anyone have experience with a long rod 225, is there an advantage to it??
For the folks running a long rod 225, is your head shaved????
And lasty, are there any good head porters in NC or TN area???
This is for a '76 plymouth feather duster, thanks all !!!

You're in a good location for being close to some Slant 6 knowledge. You'll probably get some good responses and some questions for clarification. For some of the questions like pushrod length and valve notches, etc you will need to do some specific measuring. You will surely get some responses like, "I milled my head ___ and didn't have any problems..." or, "You absolutely must have custom pushrods if you mill your head." Bottom line is that every engine will be different. Take what you get here as information and a guideline, but not gospel. You need a good engine builder with the right tools to measure things accurately.

I believe Gary Bruner lives in TN. He is one of the more knowledgeable Slant 6 engine builders that does work for customers. There are probably others as well that I'm not familiar with.

Gerald Wright in North Georgia did my head work for me. It was his first Slant 6 performance head, but he went out of his way to learn about it from some of the Slant 6 gurus before he started the job and even modified his flow bench to accomodate the Slant 6 head. He got some good flow numbers and gave me flow chart comparisons, etc. He was very patient and helpful and helped me figure out what the best total package would be since all of the components (head, cam, exhaust, converter, rear axle, etc) have to work together. Check out the Slanted Network thread for contact information for him Posted as Wright Performance in North Georgia.

The Cox Brothers have some pretty trick stuff for performance Slant 6s. They have a nice, multi-adjustable timing set and roller rockers and a lot of other good stuff. I had purchased a good quality double roller timing set from my local machine shop, but we couldn't get the cam to degree right without drilling a hole in the gear, so I contacted the Cox Brothers and paid a little extra for a very nice set. They also have a nice intake/exhaust gasket that they make.

Mike Jeffrey is an excellent engine builder and he makes windage trays for the Slant 6. He lives in Nebraska I think.

I've given you names, but no numbers. Sorry. Others will chime in I'm sure. Do some searching through the site and you'll likely find some of the contact information. Good luck and welcome to the site. Are you already registered and just didn't log in? I may be telling you things you already know.

I have Cliffords, because they are the only game in town for the 66 down "A" bodies.

I have a long rod motor. The biggest advantage I have seen so far is that it is very resistant to detonation and doesn't really care where the timing is set. It will run just about as well with 25* total as it will with 34*.
