I Just Bought an OD tranny with the Large pilot bearing.
I currently run a non-OD Small Pilot Bearing Tranny with the 64-5 Cast Iron Bell Housing.

Here is the question:

I want to know if I should run the Alum Bellhousing with the new tranny. I will be drag recing and I am afraid of what might happen if there was a clutch mishap.

My other thought was to buy another 64-5 cast irom Bell housing, and get the bearing retiner hole enlarged to accept the OD tranny.

Thoughts/ Ides welcome!

Thanks, Greg

The aluminium bellhousing is nice from a weight perspective, but you need to modify the clutch linkage to work correctly with it in an A-body. Don't quite recollect the exact mod(s), but I think it's mostly on the Z-bar.

im going to run a aluminum bell when i take the auto out. as far as the safety goes, i was thinking of building a sheild from 1/4 plate to go on top of the bell (like they have for atoumatics) to at least keep most of the damage out of the pass compartment and away from my feet. if i could afford the adapter plate andyf made, id go that route, but i really just want to spend the money on my big block turbo dart instead

Mcleod is coming out with a modular bell housing for Chrysler soon. I will go with a 5 speed when it is ready.I am running a McLeod 10" clutch right now in my non OD 4 speed. I don't race much, but I too like my feet! It grabs great, has a soft pedal and is not made of the "grey metal" that can come apart. You need their flywheel to use this set up. 8)
