If I remember correctly, there is a plug on the bottom of the parking brake cable housing. Removing this plug gains you access to the cable retaining clip (spring). Loosen the cable housing clamp where the cable goes in, hold your mouth just right and disengage the cable end from the park lever by pushing on the little spring lock. You should be able to see it well since you now have the housing off. Installation is as simple as pushing the cable in until the spring lock snaps it in place. I think the shift cable snaps in the same way, but I bet you took it loose at the lever by removing the "C" clip or nut, right? You probably saw some dirty, cooked up fluid in the parking cable housing. Just regular ole' ATF for the trans.

You slip-in and lift the end of the lock spring and the cable comes right out.
As for the park housing you removed, I hope you did not bend down the spring. :?

If the spring is still in good shape, just re-install the cover.

Thanks for the info on my problem The problem will be inthe assembly.How do you know that the spring is instaled correctly once the housing is on? I still haven't got the cable loose from the housing. What's the best way to get the cable loose?

Hmmmm, I thought that was covered above. Loosen cable housing clamp (for park cable).
