Yesterday I saw a Kaiser Typhoon six in the salvage yard. This is a
"Hemi" inline six. It is handicapped by a camsaft having a single lobe per
cylinder, with a stamped steel rocker arms. It has a hemispherical combustion chamber. I don't think you could get good cam timing with this camshaft design.

I have heard that the block of the Typhoon might be from an L-head Continental six. The Typhoon was first produced in '63. I saw this
motor in a Jeep Wagoneer. It is a very simple OHC Hemi, but I think
it was too simple.

That is an interesting engine, isn't it? Another very interesting one is the Pontiac OHC Six of '66-'70 or so.

Most salvage yard stuff is conventional and boring. The Typhoon
is kind of quirky. It is as if engineers copied each others basic
ideas. I have heard the mono lobe camshaft of the Typhoon is
only good for low speed torque, that the block design is ancient,
the motor leaks oil badly.

One of the more interesting designs I see in the salvage yards
is the common 318 polyspherical motors. It is a simple elegant
design which could have been developed much further.

I am also gaining an appreaciation for AMC V8s, although a 390
or 401 is a rare junk yard find.
