Post subject:  offenhauser 5041 dual manifold

does anyone know if this manifold will work on 225 slants later than 1968 as specified on the offenhauser site. also has anyone used holley 1945 carburetors. I have a 74 dart that runs fine with a holley 1945 so I'm thinking of putting another one....not sure about how to hook everything up as it uses a cable linkage as opposed to the rod linkage the kit with the offenhauser is designed for.....thanks for any feedback.......vic

The Offy 5041 intake will work on ANY slant-6. The rod linkage kit that comes with the intake is intended for '60-'66 cars with the rotating-rod throttle linkage, but parts of it can be used, together with your own creativity, to fabricate a suitable cable-operated linkage system. Really all you'd need to do is make a new bracket for the throttle cable (and auto trans kickdown if so equipped, see this thread for kickdown options).

You could use Holley 1945s, they'd probably work decently because while they're small and underjetted when used one at a time, putting on a second one would certainly ease the "breathing congestion" caused by having just one.

These intakes are currently not in the parts pipeline. I spoke with Tay Offenhauser this morning; he says they're backordered from the foundry but he expects them to ship sometime this month. He also says Howell is mistaken about the linkage kit being discontinued.

thanks for the info dan....I'm not in any hurry as I learned yesterday I've got to have shoulder surgery....... so I'll put my order in and wait...my next decision will be whether to go with fabricating a dutra duals manifold or headers.....I think I will go with Dutra.......any thoughts about how to slow idle down as I've read several posts about this problem but not sure there is a generic answer......oh well I'll come back to that problem if and when I face it.....I've got to replace a blown head gasket before I get to this............vic

p.s. can you stay with the stock fuel pump with this set up

I have a '78 Volare with a slant six, and this manifold fits perfectly.

I think the stock pump is fine, if it is in ok shape. :D

Post subject:  As a side note...

If you are considering getting this manifold, I would suggest that you not buy it from Howells. I ordered it in December, and never heard a peep from the guy. He charged my card right away for it, so I assumed it was coming. When I called 4 weeks later, he explained that because its a special order item, they charge me for it before ordering it so they don't get stuck with something they can't sell. He'd placed my order with Offy and he was waiting for it to arrive. "Should be in this week," he said. Ok fine, I understand that, and besides, I'm not going to cancel my order...

That's not what bothered me. What bugged me is that I have probably called 8 times, and never gotten a truthful or accurate answer. The first few times I called he said he'd call Offy and get back to me. He never did. I call again, same response. I finally got word from Offy that my order hadn't even been placed until late January--almost a month after I paid, and surprisingly, the time I placed my first call. Coincidence? Who knows.

Now Offy says he's still waiting on the foundry--yet Howell told me last week it had shipped from Offy and he should have it by last Friday.

I'm not sure why the guy doesn't seem to give me a straight answer and tell me things aren't true. Maybe he's worried I'll cancel my order. I just don't like being deceived for no reason at all. If Offy hasn't made it, then just call them, find that out, and tell me the truth. Its not the vendors' fault if the part isn't currently available, and I would understand that.

Anyway sorry to get off-topic, but just my experience
