A newby to the board guys so please bear with me a little while. To give you all a little insight about myself...I've been in and out of Mopar products for quite a while. Dodge trucks mostly. I , along with a lot of others here , I see , am a big fan of the /6. Ipresently own a D-100 with a Super Six that I installed last year. The engine had only 27,792or972 original miles on it. I took it out of a 78 Volare. I used the original BBD that came on the engine for a while(which did'nt run all that well)and finally bought a "newly remanufactured carb". I ran it for a short while , I purchased it in August of last year and it too started acting up. Come to find out , it was pulling air in around the throttle shaft. Basically the same thing the original done. Now for the kicker...I ordered another BBD and took it out of the box and the shaft in it had wobble in it as well . The parts place is in the process of getting another on too me again tomorrow. Is this common for these carbs to do this? If so , what do you guys do about it? Are there any other carbs out there that will work besides the BBD's off of the 318's? I hate to keep going on and on but I think I finally found the place to get some answers. Thank you guys for any advice given. Before I forget , I was wondering if maybe one of the Holley 2300 series carbs may work? It would be nice.

Short answer, BBDs are known to have worn out throttle shaft bushings. The only way to cure it is to take the carb into a carb rebuild shop and have them re-bush the throttle shaft. If you still have the original carb that came on the engine, I recommend focusing on rebuilding it rather than one from a 318 since the slant six carb had special features unique to the slant six. Other carbs can and have been made to work successfully, but unless you want to spend the time to fine tune a custom carbs I say stick with stock.

Most "remanufactured" carburetors are garbage. I hope you saved the original carb and didn't give it back in as a core to be screwed up for the next guy by the "remanufacturer".
You need to send a basically-sound carb to a competent carburetor builder such as the Old Carb Doctor (800-945-CARB) who will completely refurbish the carburetor including rebushing the throttle shaft, etc. rather than sandblasting it, throwing new gaskets in it and boxing it up as a "remanufactured" carburetor.

you can take the throttle body plate and the shaft(that holds the throttle blades)to you local machine shop to have new bushings put in,grab a rebuild kit,and your good to go,,,speedfreak.

Thanks guys for the help. I did end up trading my original in but it had the same problems as the others did. I finally got a Holley remanufactured bbd that was in better shape. She is runing a little better now.
