| Post subject: | Heater no Workie |
so when i rebuilt my engine, i bought caps for the two holes on the #6 runner on the intake.. there was a small hose that connected to one of them on my old 1bbl intake, but now i cannot find it, and my heater refuses to work. i believe that the hose needs to be hooked up in order for the heater to work, that's the only thing that changed when i rebuilt the motor, the fuse is fine also.. so if anybody has that small part on the intake, its like a 1/8th nipple or something let me know.... thanks guy! |

You must have a car tha has/had facvtory A/C. On those cars the heater and vent doors were operated by vacuum which was supplied (you guessed it) by a fitting on the #6 runner. Re-install one of the vacuum tees in the #6 runner and look for the plastic hose with a rubber end dangling off the firewall next to the #6 runner. If you can't find it, look closely around the heater fan on the firewall. That is usually where the plastic vacuum lines passed through. |

If your heater is vacuum controlled, then yes, you need the fitting. Is your car equiped with power brakes? If so then you need a sifferent fitting (One that has two nipples). I probably have one in my 'collection'. |

Well, I've got two vacuums, but neither is for sale and I don't think that is what you are referring to. If you are talking about that little plastic hose I wish you luck. You may get lucky at a dealership, bu you most likely will haveb to scrounge in a boneyard. Aspens and Volares and Diplomats etc... also had the smae type of vacuum operated A/C system (in fact, most GM cars did too), so you might be able to cobble together a system using parts from a different car. If all you are looking fo is the vacuum tap that screws into the #6 runner, one from any slant six will work. Good luck! |

so thanks to help from slant 6 ram.. i headed over to my hardware store and found a 1/8inch hose barb.. but now that i have hooked everything up, the rods and everything move, but no hot air comes out.. the car had factory A/C but i took it off cause i didn't use it.. i taped up the ends of the A/C wires and put in a new fuse.. but the heater still refuses to blow hot air... just to test it, i pushed the A/C button on the selection and the fuse blew. (i was guessing it would) but the heater no workie..... |

Time to go in there and troubleshoot the blower circuit / system. First check the blower motor itself, it may be jammed with crap or seized-up. You can "hot wire" it as a quick check. (If it does not spin freely when you touch the leads with the hot wire, the motor is the problem. The next stop is the switch, test each output lead. Last are the wires "in between", look for something shorted to ground. DD |

i haven't had time to check what the doc is recomending.. but i think it might just be me.. when you turn the heater on "high" should it be blowing large amounts like new cars? it does blow hot air, but not alot like i think it should.. if it's just me then i'll leave it alone.. but it wouldn't hurt to do what the doc orders... |
