Just pulled the motor and push button Automatic 904 3 speed tranny out of my 1962 Lancer GT. I have some questions about this tranny: I know what the speedometer cable is going into the tranny. I know what the 2 tranny lines are that go to the radiator/tranny cooler. I had to drop the tranny pan to disconnect these 2 strange things to get the tranny out. First off there is a cable going to the rear section of the tranny from the dash, what is it and how do you put it back together? There is a wind up spring thing that hooks the cable in question to the tranny. There is also a round cable that goes directly under the tranny gear shifter. What does it do and how does it go back together. Here too there is a wind up spring thing.

THe one that connects aft of the transmission pan is the park lock cable. The one that connects just below the kickdown lever (not "gear shift") is the actual gear shift cable. Proper disassembly, reassembly and sealing isn't complicated but there are a lot more ways to do it wrong than to do it right, and if you do it the wrong way stuff doesn't work properly, stuff gets broken and/or fluid leaks.

You really have to have a factory service manual for your car. It is primary car repair tool numero uno. If you haven't got one, put your project on hold until you get one. They're not hard to find; they go across Ebay all the time and the usual literature dealers (Walter Miller, etc.—check Hemmings) always have them in stock.

Ok looking at the park cable housing there is a nut on a shaft where the cable goes in. I removed the nut and the shaft moves about an 1/8th of an inch in and out freely. I am assuming there is some type of lock on this shaft that hold the cable in but the cable will not budge at all. Help
