am doing the disc brake swap, what are you opinions on using a 10 lb resigual pressue valve on the rear (drum) brake line after the proportionong valve? Only $17 from summit.
Some sites say do it, it makes an improvement on pedal response. Other sites say only if the MC is below the floor board.

The original set up obviously does not use a residual valve.

Opinions are appreciated.

You should not need them, as the early m.c. had them built in, and the later ones had something done to the cylinders at the wheel...

...yes, but some of the chinese or other imported cheapo cylinders being sold at the various Idiot Auto Parts do not have the proper shaped cylinder spring or stamped metal seal expander that lets everything work right without residual pressure. I pulled my hair out over air getting in the rear cylinders on my truck until I realized the replacement cylinders were not up to spec. I cleaned up some old seal expanders out of some old cylinders and put them in the cheese-based units, and all has been fine since. Just something to look out for.

It certainly won't hurt to have a residual pressure valve on a drum system.
