Here's a different option that some may not be awair of. The Wilcap Company in Pismo Beach offers a block plate for the Slant that allows one to bolt a Chevy small block style bellhousing up. He sent a PDF. flyer that I can email to those interested.

Here's what they said:

"Matt; It is the block plate style. Price is $725 with the billet steel
flywheel (Aluminum flywheel is also available). Starter retained in the
stock location. Flywheel is a 130 tooth with a 10.5 pressure plate pattern.
Once the plate/flywheel is bolted up then it is ready for any Chevy
bellhosuing. Some material on the bellhosuing has to be removed to allow for
clearance of the starter pinion gear. I've attached a PDF file. These are
made to order so allow 2-3 weeks. Call or email if there are any questions.

Might be good if you have a dedicated drag car and want to run a 2spd Powerglide (I've read they are more efficient than a Torqueflite), but why run a Turbo 350 when a 904 or 727 are better transmissions?

Actually it's good for all kinds of things. This particular setup is for a manual trans, not an auto. The steel flywheel is safer than the cast, and you can run any of the aftermarket bellhousing or scatter shields avaliable for the GM SB. So any manual trans, 3/4/5 or 6spd, that will bolt to a GM SB will bolt to your Slant. Pilot bearings will need to be addressed accordingly. Clutch availability opens up some too.

Personally, I'll pass for now (already have a 5spd). But it's great to have more options out there depending on what people are building.

I think Mark Goodman can build you the same style adapter for less money.

E, on a Slant a Glide is a waste. We don't have enough torque to make them work better than a 904.

Matt H, where you been keepin' yo bad self? Good to hear from you. With a good flywheel, that's not a bad deal. Is it an aluminum plate? There must be Chev BHs that allow T5 or similar trans bolt up.

Big D - Last I heard, Mark Goodman wouldn't make those plates for people anymore?

If anyone hasn't seen it, Andy F (www.arengineering.com) is now selling the Slant to A-engine trans adapter plate and crank spacer. Pretty light alum CNC pieces. I have one in my '68 Dart and it works great w/ the A500 OD trans. Believe it's $400 for the kit.

I got Mark to make me an adapter about a year ago. The cost on that was $75 for labor, and $41 for the materials. This is very reasonable in my opinion.
I have also heard that Mark wasn't doing anymore, but maybe if someone asked really nice??? I would suspect that it is more of a nusiance to make one here and one there. Maybe if he had 5 or 10 to do all at once it would be more profitable to him.

Lou, I've been in hiding. My projects have taken a second seat to landscaping, kitchen remodeling and garbage like that. Thats what I get for selling the new house and buying a run down place built 45 years ago.. I did gain space for project cars though.. I'm starting to get back on track.

I like the Wilcap option because it uses the GM SB pattern, which will allow kinds of trannies & clutch combow to work. The GM T5 uses the T10 pattern, as does the T56 and TKO retrofits that everyone sells, or you can get the bells to use ford or any other box to fit. Tons options supported for the GM pattern. With a crank spacer, any of the GM autos would work, the 700R4 is readilly available and all the problem areas are known and easilly solvable. Nice low 1st with a good OD.

I decided to not to go this route and get the SL6 to Mopar SB plate from ARengineering instead. My plan, if/when I blow up the T5 that's in there now is to use this plate with a dakota V6 bellhousing and the 2wd ax15 or supra R154..

I hope not to be such a stranger from now on..
