Post subject:  Air Conditioning for a Duster '74

My hometown is extremely hot on summer... in Mexico there were no A/C equipped Dusters in 74. I bought through eBay the whole internal A/C assembly, but it doesn't fit the holes in the firewall... the holes there for the heating hoses did not match the terminals on the assembly I bought... they are offset.

Is this normal in US or Canadian cars?, should I just go ahead and drill the firewall to fit the assembly in?

Thanks,

Ed

The heater-only version holes are not the same as AC equipped cars. I'm not sure of your particular car, but many models had indentations in the sheet metal to locate mounting screws, cutouts, etc.

Hey 64, I thought the heater holes were the same in A/C and non A/C equipped cars. No indentations in mine... guess I just have to drill the holes... thanks for the info.

Anyone can advise of a safe method of measuring to prevent my firewall of ending up like swiss cheese?

Make a cardboard template that fits the back of the heater assy. Verify the cutout and hole locations; then use the template to transfer cutout locations to the firewall.

Thanks a lot... it is simple. I don't know why I couldn't think of it myself.
I will work on that... and get ready for a cool summer; but I really rather have a '64 convertible 8)
