my one piece shorties has the welds around the inside of the flange too. The only welds on the outside of the flanges are tack welds. After welding, mine were "surfaced" flat.

i got the headers i bought today. they are the clifford shorty style set. i set the flange side down on the floor and could wobble it back and forth. i can see its not real flat. if this causes problms, will cutting the bar that connect the front 3 to the back 3 help this possibly? also, around the ports of the headers where they sit against the ports of the head, there is a raised part where it looks like clifford sealed them to the flange. is this normal or should it be flat all the way across like the srock exhaust manifold is. sorry if this isnt real clear but ill try and get pics if it will help. thanks guys. |

Well im sorry to say youve gotten a prime example of Cliffords well known un-handy work. The header to head mating surface should be totally flat. I would leave the two connected and just take the part down to a machine shop to have it surfaced. Or you can always send it back to Cliffords and have them send you a new one. |

Clifford shorty headers are 6 into 2 model, two seperate pieces for the front 3 and back 3. If your header is all one piece, then its not the clifford shorty set, its the longer set that clifford made for trucks. On my clifford shorties, there was a leak between the #1 and #2 so I called clifford and they told me to cut the bar between them. That worked in my case. But if you have the longer one piece headers then that bar between #3 and #4 may provide critical support. |

I have seen pictures of the clifford shorty headers with a one piece flange. A set was recently sold on ebay that were made that way. The ridge around the ports are to help seal the header to the gasket. Most of the manufactures use this ridge on their headers. |

thanks, i didnt think i was that crazy. does the piece that connects the fron three and back three go over the top of the center section of the intake? |

Well, don't I certainly look like a fool now. Go figure, I guess it was too much for me to think clifford would be consistent
