Ok I have a 64 valiant 3speed coloumn shift. I can only start the car on the ground in nuetral and then when you go to shift in to first it dies. Now when the car is on jackstands (all 4 corners dont worry) I can start the car in first, then when droped to nuetral and back to first it again dies. Makes a grinding sound like shifting to wrong gear. Please Help. I have been messing with the clutch linkage like crazy and its not helped. Thanks Michael.

Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging completely. It may be worn out. I would remove and inspect.
