Post subject: | Electric Choke Conversion Kits (Paging Dennis Weaver!) |
DW: Bingo! From: BFIC Incorporated <mail@carbsonly.com> Subject: Electric choke kits Dear Daniel Stern; Thanks for contacting us about electric choke conversion kits for the Slant-6 motors. These kits are the ones that replace the original style "remote" chokes, with the bi-metal thermostat connected to a metal rod going to the choke lever on the carburetor. Referring to your list, we can give you 100% coverage on all the Slant-6 motors 1960 through 1980. Then it gets spotty up to 1983. In each case, specify vehicle make, year, engine and carb info (carb make and number of barrels, plus model type if available). The price on the electric choke conversion kits is $39.95 each, plus $4.85 shipping. Total: $44.80. Often we'll ship straight out of inventory. To order, or for more information, call us Toll-Free @877-333-3130. Or use the secure order form on our website, in FAQ's. Simply click on http://www.carbsonly.com/index/faqs.htm and scroll to the order form. (For reference, below is the e-mail I sent to the company): ------ Hi there. I'm with the online Slant-6 club at www.slantsix.org, and we're looking for a source for electric choke conversion kits as specified below. Carbsonly came up after an extensive search, hence this message. If you have what's needed, I'll put a permanent post in the "Sources" section of the site directing people to you for their needs. Many different chokes, all remote/divorced/crossover, were used on Dodge and Plymouth cars and trucks with 170, 198 and 225 CID slant-6 engines. As you may know, these can be divided into interchangeability groups as follows: 1960 thru 1965, 170 and 225 CID, with Carter BBS or Holley 1920 1bbl (Example carburetors: Carter 3678s, Holley 2887) 1966 thru 1969, 170 and 225 CID, with Carter BBS or Holley 1920 1bbl (Example carburetors: Carter 4415s, Holley 3922) 1970 thru 1972, 198 and 225 CID, with Carter BBS or Holley 1920 1bbl (Example carburetors: Carter 4956s, Holley 6156) 1973 thru 1987, 198 and 225 CID, w/ Carter BBS, Holley 1920 or 1945 1bbl (Example carburetors: Carter 6584s, Holley 6596, Holley 7633) 1976 thru 1981, 225 CID, w/ Carter BBD 2bbl (Example carburetors: Carter 8087, Carter 8127) |

Fantastic. I guess my question about converting to an electric choke is how adjustable (if at all) is the opening rate? I visited their site, and they didn't have any info on the actual kit components. D/W P. S. - SSD, you related to Howard? |

They are very adjustable in terms of spring tension (like the originals). You can vary the rate by varying the placement of the thermal sensor/heater modulator. Mount it in a hotter location = faster rate. Mount it in a cooler location = slower rate. |

SlantSixDan, Do you know if this electric choke is still available? I e-mailed the company a few times but got no reply. I need the electric choke for the Holley 2280 2bbl carburetor on the "Super Six" intake. Any help greatly appreciated. Sorry to reopen an old thread... |
