When swapping this for my 7&1/4 rear end, will I be able to use my 9" brake parts? Or do they make 9" brakes for that rear end? I would like to upgrade my brakes in the future, but for now I only have money for the bare minimum for a swap. |

No, you can't use 9" brakes, the backing plates won't fit. Been there done that, tried to make them fit by drilling the holes out to match the 8.75 flange, but then I ran into clearance problems on the parking brake lever. A body 8.75" rears came stock with 10x1.75" drums. I belive you can use the bigger 10x2.5" parts from the b/e cars w/8.75" rears but you'd have to redrill the drums for sbp. |

well then it looks like I will also be upgrading the fronts to 10" drums. Can I still use my original master and prop valve? I just sunk a ton of money into having them both sleeved. |

I don't see why not. If you have rear brake lockup issues then you can either get a different size bore wheel cylinder or add an adjustable proportioning valve on the rear. Your not necessarily forced to change your front brakes. I'm not sure how it works out interms of stoping power but our stock 9" brakes (9x2.25" right?) may have more stoping power then 10x1.75". |

I am currently running 9" front drums and an 8 3/4 with 10" drums in the rear. The only other thing I have replaced is the mastercylinder(it was a dual pot to start with) with a newer one with larger reservoirs. I havent had any problems with the rear locking up on me. I have had it setup like this since the end of August. |

Ah now I see why you asked if the 10" spindles were different. Yes yes they are ![]() |

I guess I should also ask, does the driveshaft need to be modified for this swap? |

Yes going from a 7 1/4 to an 8 3/4 you need to shorten the driveshaft 2 1/4 inches. |
