| Post subject: | Volare Police Calipers? |
I noticed that there are police/taxi calipers available for '80 Volares. What is the difference between these and the standard versions, and is there any advantage in a non-power assisted brake swap on a '64 Valiant? I gather from my searches that there was a difference in the rear brake wheel cylinder piston diameters, but I dont find anything on the front calipers. |

I couldnt tell you for sure, but I believe the police calipers are stronger and better or something along that line. |

Cop cars built on the Volare/Aspen/Diplomat/GranFury platform (also Tacis and fleet vehicles) had a heavy duty brake option. The rotors were 11 inches as opposed to the standard 10 (I believe that was the standard size) and the calipers were a little beefier. These brakes were designed to stand up to the greater stresses and heat buildup associated with high speed pursuits in a vehicle with a Cop spec 360 or 318. In a slant powered A-body upgrading to these heavy duty brakes is needless overkill. The parts weigh far more than the standard brakes and the extra stopping power provided is simply unnecessary (unless maybe you do autocross). |

I've never heard of a HD caliper. There is a HD version of the rotor. The HD rotor has stiffening ribs inside of it. As far as I know, the non-HD rotor is disco and the only thing you can buy these days has the internal ribs. |
