Ok I have located several set of front spindles one sbp off of a 69 gts and 4 bbp off of 74 -75 a body's. now my question is, is there a advantage in holding out for a 76 a body ( I understand that the calibers changed that year ) are these a better set up? I plan on buying every thing i can new so does it matter is i grab these spindles from the 75? If i do can i just buy the calibers for the 76 and upgrade that way or is it just as good to get the 75 stuff and go that way I didn't want to go with the sbp due to the limited wheel choice also after i upgrade what is the best rear end to look for and what can the rear end come out of something other then an a body that i can get a rear out of? of ya all this is going in a 69 dart with a 360 |

I think they went from Kelsey-Hayes calipers to the sliding type calipers before 1976. My 74 Duster has the sliders. |

Changes in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards mean that there were THREE different disc brake systems on '76 A-bodies. The strongest brake system is found on those cars built after 1/1/76. |

Please tell us the details of this "third" brake system. The 1/1/76 date caused drum brakes to be dropped as standard equipment. Actually if I do some digging, I may have the service bulletin about that. Seems I recall it said the drums were dropped mid-December 1975 in preparation for 1/1/76.Let's see.... 1976 A-bodies changed from the hand operated emergency brake to a foot pedal. Somewhere I remember reading that the brake pedal ratio was changed on some of the cars too. I'll have to see if I can dig up that information again. Gosh Dan, you are still waiting for me to dig up other service bulletins. Was it the one for the ... ummm.... slant 6 carburtor tin plate thing? |

Craig, I've got a '76 Engineering Overview book from Chrysler that enumerates the stage-1 and stage-2 changes in '76 model brake systems. Stage 1 was in (I think) 10/75, and stage 2 was in 1/76. Unfortunately, that book is with my other 13 boxes of Mopar literature in Denver, and it'll be awhile before it's local to me again, so I don't know for sure. And yeah, I'm still curious to see that "1 and 6 plate" bulletin, if you get a chance and it floats to the top of the stack. ![]() |
