I have a 67 Dart GT that is getting new lower control arm bushings and torsion bars. I have it all apart and am trying to get it back together, but am running into difficulty trying to get the control arm pivot, that presses into the bushing, into the k frame all the way..... When i can get it into the k frame all the way with some force, then it comes out of the bushing in the control arm, this last time the bushing slid out a little ways from the control arm too.. I guess i just dont understand this front end...Has anyone done this that can offer advise? Also any other info reguarding this would be great!! Thanks
Im using Energy Susp Poly bush.
Thanks for any info...
Eric

I've never used the poly stuff, only the stock type bushings but would bet that if you use the stock rubber bushing, you won't have a problem

OK, I gotta jump in on this one.
I had the same problem I think your talking about when I rebuilt the front end on my Scamp. The "Poly" bushing was pressed on the shaft, and the shaft pressed into the control arm. (although I dont think it was really a press fit)
When installing the control arm and strut rod in the car,,, when tightening down the pivot shaft and the strut rod nuts, it would pull the pivot shaft out of the bushing,,, or actually i think the bushing was pulling out of the control arm. I didn't worry about it to much at the time, but I've been unable to get a good alignment. And if I hit the brakes while backing up and turning (like backing out of a parking space) I get a "clunking" noise.
Its my belief that the control arm is moving forward and back at the inner end be cause the bushings not doing its job of holding the control arm in place.
On the same note, I just rebuilt my frontend on my 68 Dart, using all rubber bushings, everything went together well, got a good alignment, car drives great, no clunking like on the scamp. The Rubber lower control arm bushing is a very tight press fit on the pivot shaft and in the control arm.
The rubber bushing actually keeps the inner end of the control arm in its proper location.
In my humble opinion, you should take it apart and get the rubber lower control arm bushings, then life will be normal again.
In fact, i'm going to take my Scamp apart and install the rubber bushings in the lowers and have it realigned.
Good luck

My understanding is that some poly kits have started substituting lca rubber bushings for that very reason. Sorry, but you go with poly, you takes ya chances...

I had trouble getting the LCA back on my 65 suspension (even with the
rubber bushings) - one of the LCA pivot "spears" was bent - After I finally figured out it was bent - ESPO to the rescue - got a new one and it all
fit together again.

So check for bent parts.
