Post subject:  McLeod's modular bellhousing.

I posted this info about 9 months ago, but thought it was worth bringing up again. The Mcleod clutch company has been working on a modular bellhousing system that will allow you to mate ANY tranny to ANY engine. They have been collecting patterns for years, and setting up their CNC machine to make any adapter that is ordered. They will use the same basic bellhousings for everything, but change the engine adapter and the tranny adapter to meet your needs. I do not know how far they have come, but when I spoke to them in the Summer, they thougth they were going to be ready by January or so. Since everything always goes slower than planned, it might not be ready yet, but might also be just about on the market by now. Go on their web site and see what is up with that. They have one tech rep, who only answers the phone a few days a week, but you can get throught to him, and he is very, very helpfull. I cannot remember his name right off, but when I called there looking for a clutch, they suggested I call back and talk to him, so it should not be too difficult to get his number and name figured out.

This sounded like a good idea when I heard of it several months ago.
I think it basically a two piece bell housing, the front is specific to a motor.

I posted this because I got several personal e-mails off the .org site asking about the t-5 conversion. Now we have a post that can be found in a search.

Post subject:  His name is Red

McLeod's tech line is (714)630-3668 from 10-12 and 1-3 PST Mon-Fri.
The name of the "tech" is Red. He is the owner of the company.
The modular bell housing is made of :
1. Engine plate
2. Bell housing
3. Cap
4. Spacers
The bell housing will be made to fit a Big block, with an engine plate for the small block V-8. This will accomadate a T-5, TKO, and other transmissions. A plate for the slant 6 may be made.

Right now, there is an adapter being designed to allow a T-5 (Ford) to bolt a stock bell housing. This is probably a better way to get a T-5 on a slant. I don't see the need for the big bell housing without a radical build. I am currently running a McLeod 10" prototype flywheel/PP/clutch combo (similar to Rick Covalt's) that will hold at least 300HP, with a soft pedal. It fits in the stock bell housing (non OD). I think it would fit a OD bell housing as well. I'll probably put a 5 speed on as soon as the adapter is available (or maybe before  ). It should be in the next few months.

Red was discussing the modular bellhousing with me in order to get an 11" clutch behind the turbo slant. The turbo was blowing through the 10" clutch. We went with a dual friction clutch that seems to be holding.
