Is there a source for either a rebuilt steering box or a steering box rebuild kit. Also interested in the entire front end parts, idler arms etc..thanks for your replies |

Interchange is '62-'72 A- and B-body. Firm Feel or Steer & Gear can provide rebuilt steering boxes. If you go this route, if you have nonpower steering, try for a 20:1 box, which is really much nicer than the stock 24:1 box (4-1/2 turns lock-to-lock instead of the stock 76.3...okay, 5-3/4). If you have a power box, you'll have your choice of "firmness". Firmer generally = better. Most of the front-end parts are still available through normal sources of supply. |

If you've got the tools and skill, naw, shouldn't be too hard. Look over the factory service manual and see if it's something you're comfortable tackling. I've had all three steering ratios in several different A-bodies, and the 20:1 ratio is by far my favourite. |

thanks again Dan..I will check out the factory manual and see if it requires any special tools I dont have. If my gear is a 24 . 1 can i rebuild it to the 29. 1 ratio? |

Yep, to change the ratio you need a worm-and-ball-nut assembly of the desired ratio. Mopar Performance used to offer the 20:1 worm-and-ball-nut, but I'm pretty sure they've discontinued it. I think either Steer & Gear or Firm Feel has them available. I tried the 16:1 ratio in my '65. Mistake! It was passable on the highway, but a complete hassle around town and when parking. |

I bought a 20:1 worm/ballnut package and bearingrecently from a guy in MN (dartman_67 on Ebay). I believe MP is making them again after a 1-3 yr break. If you have the 68-up box, make sure to get two bearings as the older boxes only had 1 (except for special apps). Lou |
