Hello Folks, I was wondering if anyone has ever done anything with their headliner, as far as some sort of upgrade goes. My stepson had a 2000 Z-28 with T-tops. He felt that the sun was ruining the leather seats. ( The tops were glass). He went to the cloth store, got some kind of velour material, glued it to the inside of the tops and was done. Anyway, I was thinking about doing this to my headliner in the Duster. The liner is in overall good condition for being 31 yrs.old, but it could look so much better if this were done. I have never removed one from a car in one piece, don't even know if it can be done. Would be easier if it were out of car, but... If someone has experience with this please, any advice is good. Seems it would also help in changing the color of the interior. Right now mine is "multi-tone" if you know what I mean. Wouldn't have to paint it or find a good one the right color.

Installing a headliner in these cars is pretty tricky... farm this one out unless youve done it before.

Installing a headliner is doable. I did one in my 63 valiant a couple of years ago and only had a few issues with it. As with most things on my car, the next time I do it, I will be better at it. For the price you pay for the installation, you could pretty much cove the cost of a new headliner.

So in theory, if you goof the first one up and learn how to do it, installing the second one would balance the whole thing out and you learned something. I had some ridiculous estimates to do this job. This sounds a bit stupid I know, but I'm looking at the first one as training cost. I am fairly happy with the one I have in there. There are just a couple of errors that I think I am probably one of the only people that would notice.

Check the Mopar mags, they have installation instructions all the time. They give every project car a new headliner at some point. As far as gluing velour to the existing headliner, I don' think that would be worth it. However when you order your headliner you can usually specify the material you want it made out of. Also get some extra material so you can cover your visors.

Killin5, I guess I should have said that my liner is the kind that is made of a cardboard material, not actually cloth. Doing the velour would be like putting it on the rear deck behind the seat. My car is very "no frills".
