Post subject:  Changing lifters???

I have an87 d150 whhich has developed some serios lifter noise sometimes from 1 or 2 lifters. si there any way of changing them without removing the head. hate to rip it down for it only has 55000 mi.

There is a tool to remove lifters. Its made by Lisle. Go to www.toolsource.com Click on Engine on the left and look for lifter remover.

Eric & 74.
I only use the early "drool tube" heads just for that reason. The lifters cannot be removed from the engine with the head installed.

Sorry Charlie! :wink: Hmmm...Wasn't that line in a tuna commercial year ago?

The cylinder head was changed with the introduction of hydraulic lifters so YES YOU CAN change the lifters on your 1987 Truck (or any 1981 or later slant 6 head) without removing the cylinder head.

Yeah, I'm the tuna with good taste :lol: (don't even go the other way)

I stand corrected on the head. I have not seen a hydraulic lifter head. I just assumed (there's that word again) The pushrod area was the same, as the late solid lifter head.

There is just enough room to get a lifter through the head IF you have steady hand. :D :( :shock:
