| Post subject: | Gas pedal woes. |
I am having a problem with the gas pedal on my wifes 63 Dart with the original rod type linkage. The problem is that the pedal wants to go "over center" and stick to the floor. I replaced the driver side floor pan with a rproduction peice that is identical to the factory floor pan but I may have located the pedal in the wrong place.I realize that the best thing would be to convert to a hanging pedal and cable but the car has a new carb for the rod setup and it actually seems to work real well for a reman so I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions or cures anyone may have for this. And yes,I have tried to adjust the pedal linkage to no avail. Thanks in advance. HyperValiant |

The rod-type setup works well when it's set up properly. The swivel at the top of the pedal up-rod (on the interior side of the firewall) can be unsnapped from the forward-rod, and "unscrewed" from the pedal by a few turns at a time until the pedal can no longer travel down far enough to go overcentre. As long as you can still achieve full throttle opening, you're fine. Also check the support bushing (the protruding one that supports the forward rod as it goes through the firewall). If it is worn or saggy, replace it (Gary Goers). |
