I am going through the cooling system, getting ready for the summer, and noticed when I took off the thermostat that there is a couple of rods(the size of a coat hanger)inside of the water jacket.Do these have any use?Did someone forget these inside during the rebuild?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, there's one per side. They're used during the casting process and usually just abandoned inside the finished casting. When I find these in a cylinder head, I grab 'em with a pair of needle nose pliers and turn the pliers (like eating spaghetti) to wind the wire around the pliers until it breaks free, then yank it out.

All it can do if left in there is rust.
