Hey guys, Just picked up some torsion bars, the guy said they were fine, but when they arrived I saw some worrisome marks. Can you please look and tell me what you think? I think the left one is junk according to the "watch out for nicks" theory MJ I apologize for the big pics, just wanted close ups to be sure ![]() ![]() more at: http://tinyurl.com/8laav Thanks |

Them's Vise-Grip marks, and they greatly increase the likelihood of the bars breaking. |

Yes, them nicks cause a stress point in those hardened spring tempered torsion bars. Eventually it will break. |

Run it! I've had marked up bars before. The set in my Duster has been in for hundreds of thousands of miles, they were gouged, I lightly dressed them up and stuck 'em in. No scratches, gouges or other stress risers is best, but it prob-ly ain't gonna blow up. I think "YOU'LL PUT AN EYE OUT WITH THAT!" alarmists are a bore. ![]() ![]() D/W |

Hate to say it ,,,,will anyways,,,Im with Weaver on this one,,,mine look like a training ground for vice grip operators...hundreds of thousands of miles on North Americas roughest roads. Funny part is they just slip out. I have no idea when they got so scarred... If a little scarring broke torsion bars every A body I ever saw would have broken bars. |

Well harmony is great and all =) See something new everyday! My concern is that the Lancer is going to become my daily driver with the little one in there. I'd like to think it'd just be ok and slap them in. I mean would you want anything to happen to little buddy? ![]() Either of you guys want to buy them? ![]() MJ |

Yeah, you better not endanger the little guy, or—judging by this photo—you'll be totally hosed. |

Well, I can't say I've ever had a torsion bar break, but I'd predict that the car would be completely controllable and fine in the unlikely event that it does. I'd think it would simply make it a lowrider on one corner. The lower control arm pin, the strut rod and the control arm itself are going to keep everything in place. Personally, I'd worry more about a flat tire, a terrorist attack or a meteor hitting me than I would a broken torsion bar. /W |

You should use them, mine´s got more marks and I use my car for daily travels to work, drag racing and circuit racing. |

Lancer, How much did you pay for those bars?May be you can sell them. Summit (I'm sure you know) has brand new bars for $139.00 All though you probably wouldn't have any problem with the bars you have, that is not a guarantee. Precious little man you have there,I think he's worth some new ones. ![]() JZ |

they weren't much--$30 plus about $10 shipping. Everyplace has them for $140, so I'll probably just take the safe route and get new ones. I'm sure you guys are right and I could probably use them, but if they did break i'd have to get a new set anyway, and deal with it. Ah I'll be lazy and buy new. anyone want to take them off my hands for $40? MJ Ps--thanks, the kid is cute thanks to his mother ![]() |

I understand the theory behind the aversion to scratched t bars (crack propagation) but I'm curious to hear how many have busted. If you've had an experience, let us know. |
