Do you need to seal the bolts for the alt bracket that go into the block. If so what do you use to seal it. It seems as though some oil is leaking around that area. Thanks JZ |

My Duster always had a pool of oil around the alt. bracket, until I changed the valve cover gasket. The bolt needs no sealant. |

One or two of the alternator bracket holes into the cylinder head go all the way through to the inside and sometimes leak oil if not sealed. Use some Permatex type stuff or (ugh) RTV silicone on the threads. |

Never got that problem, but meaby you can use some black silicone, that solves almost everything. |

I used teflon tape for those two bolts. |

So you do have to seal those 2 bolts, that is what I thought from the oil on the bolts.Sounds like some teflon tape will be the ticket. Thanks JZ |

I stand corrected, I've not had that problem so never new tape could be used. |

I left the bolts out of those holes when I switched the alternator to the driver's side. It makes a BIIIIIIGGGGG mess. |

I left those bolts out when I switched to my dr side alt and surprisingly it was only a small mess. About 1 qt every 500 miles or so. Weird. Lou |

So if someday I decide to switch my alternator to drivers side, I can use my original brackets?, I was thinking to switch it to drivers side to make more easy to put a A/C system in my car, so I can put A/C compressor in alternator place and get a more easy and clean operation. |
