I want to put in a bigger cam, but I want to get spark advance right first. I saw this quote: "I have two distributors from the 3690789 kit in '82 and '84 D100s and they seem to have 20* mechanical built into them. They both have 10* initial and 30* total." from slant Cecil in this post: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... ht=recurve Does this mean you can use one of these distributors, and have 10* initial and 30* total, without any other work? I'm thinking 12-15* initial, with 28-30* total would be ideal, but if I could get one of these at the pick-n-pull, it would be a head start. The cam I want to put in is going to be a custom grind from Comp to the same specs as the .528 MP cam. I have .060 shaved off of the head (9:1 compression???), along with 3.73 gears and a 4 speed. I know .100 shaved with bigger valves would be better, but I can't afford both the head work and the cam right now. Thanks for the help/suggestions. |

Keep in mind that 9:1 comp with a cam that big may not have good low rpm (idle) characteristics. You have the right goal in mind for the dist advance range. I don't know those dist numbers specifically, but I bought a rebuilt one for a 77 (78?) aspen (not lean burn) and it had about 15 deg spread from idle to max advance. Lou |
