Ran the '71 duster at wilkesboro. It is a basically stock 225 with a 904 auto and 2.76 gears, fresh tune-up with accel coil and wires, 1bbl holley carb. I hit a reaction time of .20 and ran an 11.84 at around 59mph I believe. I used 93 octane fuel w/booster, not that it was anything revolutionary but I tweaked her on down running 12.15,12.05,11.96 and then getting the 11.84 which is the best I been able to coax from it.. this has been a fun experience tooling this puppy down the 1/8...I guess it's time for more modifications! |

Yea I heard that Charrlie! I hear it is so much better of a track than what we have here in wilkes- the end of the track seems very rough! As for the duster I got a few mods planned out so far and we'll see how that pans out and I'll keep you guys updated, planning to also lighten it up in places. I'm still messing with the timing , anyone have any good tips on where to set it?? Thanks for the input guys and then we'll see what comes next! P-S- Lou that '66 runs really good for a mostly stock machine, and I noticed you pulled some awesome lights too! I'm gonna have to get practiced up to hang with the sl6 racer crowd!! Oh yeah Charrlie- Maybe I should get a 4dr dart w/a 318 and put n.o.s on it lololol |

See results from the Wilkesboro race post. The 11.80's have became 12.20's due to a slippin tranny, new 904 and modified 225 are in the works..stay tuned...but even into the 12's the car remains consistent....cya |

Toss out those 2.76 gears for some real cruisin'/racin' screws!! If you don't plan on hittin' the highway, go to 3.91's. Roger |

Good Suggestion...The 2.76 gears are the first on the list to be gotten rid of!! Thinking about robbing an 8.25 out of a '78 dodge truck --which possibly has 3.55's - 3.73's would be the cats meow to me as a strip and strip rear end gear. Hmmm, we'll see what happens and I'll keep everyone posted!! cya- Michael |

Post subject: | Truck gears |
I'm told my slant six truck has 2.94 gears in the stock 8.25 which is not much of an improvement over 2.76, but a 78 truck could be a different ratio. Doen't hurt to check. Currently I'm running 2.94 sure grip in my 18.4 sec aspen.(with some low profile 14 inch tires for a little extra zip) I've got a set of 3.21 comming soon, which I know will work good for street and O.K. for strip, and I think 3.55 would be even better at the strip. I've run 3.91 gears, but years ago, They are lots of fun, but gas is a bit more expensive now than when I was 17. While 3.91 gears are still very 'streetable', I don't think you'd want to make any highway trips with them. I actually killed a slant six that way once. Nice thing about an 8.25, is that it's rather easy to find a cheap sure grip or locker on ebay or at the swap meet. While you're in there, you could build it up good. (to the tune of 'if I had a hammer')If we had a trailer, we'd trailer in the mo-or-ning... we trailer in the evening, all over this la-and ... I'd trailer my Aspen, you'd trailer your duster... We'd all run.. 4.56's .. all over this la-a-and..... Now i'm gonna have that song stuck in my head again...Enjoy! |

Post subject: | Yay! |
The lower gears are fun, but as mentioned gas isn't getting any cheaper. Thank god I dont live to far from the drag strip!! Oh yes and if I forgot to mention the car now has a mopar performance electronic ignition conversion kit on it with a chrome box. Night and day difference, the stuttering miss is now gone and fires up quicker than ever. My friend donated a new wiring harness to me and we installed it. I bought the chrome box for about $65 and the ballast resistor for $3. So for under $70 Im coming out well! The mopar chrome boxes work great! Stayed tuned for mods and later additions to the '71! Slant Six Ram: What did you have that was slant powered with 3.91's?? I bet that was great fun!! Im thinking 3.73's for the duster..well this one anyways..got 5 of'em!! Plenty of Projects and not enough time or cash or to play... Quote: Slant Six Ram: What did you
Right after I got out of High school,(12 years ago) I had a powder blue 72 dart 2 door. I put some extra leaf springs on, which gave it horrible handling, but it looked really cool with the back end way up in the air. At that time, I had a friend who could hardly wait to unload an 8 3/4 abody rear for a hundred bucks. He had several chunks, and 3.91 sounded like a good number at the time.have that was slant powered with 3.91's?? That stock 225 would smoke a tire till it looked like a burn out contest, and you better believe I took advantage of that 'skill' every chance I got. I wish I still had that car now, but I didn't think much about trading it off when keeping up with the rust became a hassle. Had I known how to modify a slant six at that time, It would have been 1 heck of a car. Can't believe it could smoke a tire with a 1bbl carb. You can never go back....... Or can you???? |
