Post subject:  MP XHD vs. SS rear springs

I am wondering what the difference is between the mopar performance XHD springs and the Super Stock ones. Mopar doesn't really list any specs on these things, and I'd like to see what the spring rates are (and/or number of leaves).

I am contemplating replacing my original spring packs with either one of these combined with possibly 1.04" t-bars (rode in a barracuda similarly equipped with home-built rear spring packs and 1.04" t-bars and the ride was just right).

Thanks!

As far as I know heavy duty is just adding a extra leaf.So instead of the standard 4 leaf they are 5.

On my 65 Dart convertible I went with some stock replacement springs, teamed up with some KYB'S and couldn't be happier.Heavy duty springs will raise the back up a little, something I wasn't interested in plus I'm not hauling sand bags or anything else for that matter.

If you do get springs I would suggest getting them from JcWhitney, there almost 1/2 the cost of Mopar springs, and more than likely made from the same people.A set from JCW are $110.00 compared to the $90.00 apiece Mopar springs I have seen.JCW has standard and hd springs as well.

For torsion bars I went with a .890" bar
These bars give a nice firm secure feel when driving.

Hope this helps

I believe the XHD springs use 6 leaves.

The SS springs are specially basised for drag racing. The right hand spring pack has an extra leaf spring and the car sits higher on the right side, while the whole rear of the car is lifted up a couple of inches for weight transfer. The springs also need to be matched to body weight. The springs for a 3000lb car are differant then springs for a 3400lb car.

I have the 2800lb Suoer Stock springs on my car. they are different left to right but the right dosen't sit noticably hight than the left. It corners better(less body roll from the rear) and rides somwhat stiffer but not harsh. They also raised the rear of my car quite a bit. The quarter used to sit so you could only see about half of the tire above the wheel. as you can see from my sig pic the quarter is now above the tire about 1/2". I got mine from mancini racing for $230 and that includes the new shackles.

I would definitely go with HD springs on a /6 car, S/S springs are not needed unless it's a balls-to-the-wall drag-only /6.

You can dissasemble spring packs and add/subtract leaves as well.
